Using Two Monitors on One Computer Is More Productive

November 30th, 2008

Using Two Monitors on One Computer

You might ask why someone would use two monitors on one pc but there are reasons.  Known as dual pc monitors, these have a multitude.  One good reason for using two monitors is for anyone in the photography market.  For instance, individuals working on digital photos, trying to view, analyze, and organize, using dual monitors is a great help.

With a dual computer monitor, you can actually double work and also desktop space.  One of the most common pc screens is the LCD.  These are aesthetically pleasing and they are very space sufficient.  Therefore, one who does not have a lot desk area would benefit from the flat screen monitor.  Now, for individuals on a budget, a CRT screen is also a sensible choice but bigger.

When it comes to using a dual pc monitor, again the greatest advantage is for someone in photography or a person who works with graphics and digital images.  Some of the main benefits include:

Looking through a picture library, placing all photos on one monitor in thumbnail view and then viewing the pictures on a full screen on the second monitor whereby the picture could be focused and manipulated.

Editing pictures is also easier by using dual computer monitors.  For instance, one monitor can be used for browsing photographs on the internet or through some type of photo gallery and then with the second monitor, photos can be edited using a special software application program.

Even staying current on email is an advantage of having two monitors on one pc.  For home businesses or individuals in corporate America, receiving lots of emails is common.  With two screens, one could display all new emails coming in while the other could be be used for other types of work.

The bottom line is that dual computer monitors have a number of purposes for home users or individuals in the marketplace.  While the computer speed would not advance, productiveness would since the individual is better equipped to stay better organized and multi task in a way like never before.  This trend has become so popular that it is becoming a normal part of purchasing a pc and screen.

Today, there are a number of computers on the market that are engineered to support a dual pc screen without having to spend additional cash or time in getting hardware set up.  Consequently, if you have a newer pc, you might already have the ability to work on two monitors on one computer.  To verify, look at the back portion of the pc where you would observe two VGA connectors or DVI connectors, or in some instances, both.

If your computer is not designed with a connector for working on dual computer monitors, then you can go to a local pc or electronics outlet and buy the needed parts.  For this, sometimes the hardware can be installed by yourself but often times a professional’s help is required.

Is Your Pen Drive A Data Loss Disaster Waiting To Happen

November 29th, 2008

Mobile computing isn’t only restricted to laptops these days. Portability of data is increasing and it is becoming every more easier to carry around masses of data on USB memory sticks otherwise known as flash memory sticks or pen drives.

Sony patented the term “memory stick” when they came out with a new storage device for their digital cameras and digital files. Original drives were quite small but it was still cutting edge technology, but look where we are today?

Memory sticks allow Pc users to quickly and easily transfer data from one computer to another or to carry their data with them which is all well and good but one of the issues this raises is the sheer amount of data they can hold.

It is nothing to have 2,3 or even 4gb of data just sat on the memory stick dangling on the your key ring, This is more than the average hard drive was capable of holding even only 8 years ago, but every technology has a down side. Due to there portability even though they are quite robust it is quite common to damage a memory stick even to the point of losing all your data which for many is an absolute disaster.

Fortunately for the unlucky ones (which are more than you would guess) memory stick repair is a viable option so if the worse does happen it shouldn’t be the end of the world, even if your memory stick does contain all your data.

In the worse case scenario a good data recovery company can even retrieve data from a microwaved drive or even one that has be submersed, and in some cases even run over, which is a good thing when you consider the amount of data they can hold. There are of course no guarantees that USB memory stick recovery will work but the odds are good so don’t panic if you break your pen drive or memory stick as the situation may not be as bad as it first seems.

November 23rd, 2008

Notebook computers are not only convenient, powerful, and user friendly, but they are also cost effective and come in many colors.  Some of the cheapest laptop computers are comparable to the most expensive if you shopcarefully.  Why spend more money on an expensive mode when you can get the same power and speed in a less expensive laptop.

“The waste of money cures itself, for soon there is no more to waste.”
Famous Quote about money by M.W. Harrison

With the availability of cheaper notebooks a person could purchase a computer that is adaptable enough to use anywhere in the home and durable enough to take on vacation.

You can also consider purchasing one of the more stylish colored laptops that are now at the stores.  These colored notebooks come in a wide range of colors.  If you can’t find the color or style you like, there are many manufactures that will custom paint your laptop in any color you want.  They are available in metallic and pearl finishes and high gloss or matte.  Your business or school logo can be enscribed on the lid.

“A cheerful heart is good medicine…” Proverbs 17:22

I urge you to add a little humor to the work day monotony by fetching|getting some funny computer wallpaper from the internet.  Imagine, as a stressed colleague walks into your office or cubicle, and he or she observes a comical wallpaper or cartoon.  It would surely brighten thier day and deliver a little grin to their face and add some amusement and creativity to the working atmosphere.

“The purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love color the most.”  John Ruskin (1819-1900) British poet, novelist and journalist.

Are you tired of gun metal grey, or matte black?  Finally, someone has conceived colored laptops! You are now able to be different from the crowd by selecting one of the new stunning colored laptops that are on the market now.  Most of the main brands, Dell, Gateway, and of course the Mac’s now come in a variety of different colors.  And, if you have a vintage model, there are companies that will customize it.

Be a wise shopper,  save money, get the most for your dollar when you buy the cheapest laptop on the market.  Don’t forget about style, look for a notebook that stands out such as a a colored laptop.  When your new laptop arrives, download some funny computer wallpaper to “make your heart merry” as well as your co-workers.

Cloud Computing Explained – What Is Cloud Computing?

November 19th, 2008

The term cloud computing has been bandied around for a number of years but unless your server needs were very high you simply would not have begun to look at scaling up your server resources.

More and more businesses however are relying increasingly heavily on web based applications both for client contact and transactions, the downside however is that the infrastructure becomes more hungry, and costs scale up dramatically using traditional expansion methods, and quite often there is then a compromise between functionality and client satisfaction.

Cloud computing gives businesses a entirely more cost effective solution to satisfy both the companies internal server needs and the external ebb and flow of customer based web traffic, which often will have peaks and troughs that can be costly both in monetary terms and lost revenue due to user dissatisfaction.

Cloud computing is also very useful in the CAD industry too. If you look at a typical architectural practice for example they will have good workstations and cad computers for the design phase but often when they need to render a digital image or video presentation and the computing requirements for this are immense and can take weeks to produce the end results.

Some cloud computing systems will allow short term rental of resource so you could in this scenario use cloud computing to render a scene or movie in double quick time.

For an easy explanation of cloud computing have a look at the video which gets the concept across in nice easy to understand language.

How I Keep My Computer Clean and Organized

November 19th, 2008
by Chuck the Computer Geek

Here it is; the computer that you have always wanted. The manual tells you very little about why or how to use many of the programs on it. You know you are supposed to clean the hard drive but you are not quite sure how to do that. What is antispyware? Well I can answer many of those questions for you and a few more.

First things first; Let us start with what certain programs do. The antiviral software keeps harmful files from getting on your computer or removes them once they are on your computer. Antispyware removes spyware that is attached to some programs or files that you receive or download. It is usually harmless, but not always. A Firewall is like a bomb shelter for your computer, it blocks the bad guys, or hackers from getting into your computer and tells you when they try. Always keep these programs up to date.

You should run your antiviral programs and antispyware programs daily to keep your computer free of harmful content. This content can make your computer run slow, or completely wipe out the data on your hard drive.

When you download and run a program, many files are left in temporary folders and other folders that you know longer need. Every website you visit leaves a file on your computer so you need to clean out the cookies and cache files. There are some good programs out there that will do this for you with just a few clicks. You can find them free or at a small cost. Make sure to keep all of your software up to date.

A registry cleaner can keep your registry clean by removing old file strings, which will keep your computer running better. Keep an anti spyware program on to help you to avoid and clean any spyware from your computer that comes along with some programs like free ones.

Remove any programs from your computer that you do not use. Use the uninstall program that came with your computer, never just delete a program folder. Run the registry cleaner weekly as it will remove stray file strings left on your computer after programs and files are removed.

If you keep up with all of these procedures, this should provide enough maintenance for your computer to run smoothly. If a problem develops run your antiviral software, or your PC doctor program to try to pinpoint the problem. There is also online help available for most computers.

More Fun With Pc Games

November 17th, 2008

Video games are a type of entertainment electronics that have a common component of a visual, or video, interface for input and feedback. In general, this can include any kind of software game that utilizes some type of display, such as a TV screen, a computer monitor or small display built right into the gaming unit.

pc games
When video gaming was first introduced into the marketplace, the term “video” referred rather specifically to what was known as a raster display device. However, today the term “video game” simply means any kind of video display that is able to interact with the software games and correctly display the functions of the game.

There are several types of electric gaming systems that are widely available on the market and which are designed only for the purpose of running video games. The most common and popular video game platforms are the PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox brands.

These dedicated game platforms usually are attached to a standard television set which becomes the screen for the games. There are also handheld versions of some of these gaming platforms and these units will have a small video screen built into the unit. Some of these games will also run on a Pocket PC device which is another good option for portability and convenience.

video software
In addition to the dedicated gaming platforms, there are also many video games that will run on Microsoft Windows and Macintosh computers. This means that anyone with a computer can also enjoy playing games with a variety of computer software gaming options and without having to buy a separate, dedicated video game platform.

Usually, there is a much wider variety of video software games that run on computers than the number of games available for the dedicated boxes. But at the same time, video gaming enthusiasts often prefer the video game platforms because the games are more interesting, intense and challenging.

Another aspect to consider is that the dedicated platform for a video game is designed more for multiple players and so that is often an advantage that is preferred. Also, games that run on computers are often considered more limiting because the size of the computer monitor is generally much smaller than the size of the television screen to which the dedicated game boxes are connected.

video downloads
In many households, the computer is often used for homework, household management and business purposes, so therefore the computer is not as available for entertainment purposes. This is another reason that the dedicated platforms for games are popular because it avoids the fight over the use of the computer.

For years now, video games video downloads have been very popular and this continues to increase. This is a trend that is expected to continue, as the game developers constantly improve their devices and integrate the latest advancements in technology into their platforms. There is no doubt that people will be enjoying video gaming systems for many years into the future.
