Christmas Gadgets

February 26th, 2010

have you perhaps asked for the newest form of a smart phone/ iPhone this Christmas? Perhaps you are after the newest version of the many consoles out on the market at the moment. Perhaps a new laptop could be the thing that you are after this year?

Sure it is going to be an awesome Christmas if you are receiving one or if you are really lucky more of these items but there can also be some serious problems that arise once you have gotten these things. If you are buying then take this advice into consideration too as it could save you some money in both short and long term ways.

Insurance (sorry it’s the I word) is actually very important when it comes to those gadgets that you are going to be receiving. However this does not mean that you have to get insurance from the people that you are buying the product from. They usually wack the prices of these up and they know for a fact that they are ripping you off by doing this kind of thing. If you are after something like mobile phone insurance then you may want to check online retailers that deal with insurance policies because you could be paying less than half than you do at the moment.

There are several companies out there that specialise in insurance but are not out there to rip you off. Many corporate companies that offer these insurances are not experts which is partly why they cannot optimise on offering a very cheap service. One of the other reasons is because they do not want to and do not care.

So if you get the iPhone for Christmas this year make sure you look into something like iPhone insurance and of course if you are planning on going away this Christmas for a nice snow filled holiday make sure that you focus in on Ski insurance rather than just the general travel insurance.

Cool Computer Hard ware

February 21st, 2010

From affordable HP laptop computers. Yes, it is indeed cool seeing all those electronic components come together to create a Desktop. But the ‘cool’ in the title refers to the system that you have installed to keep the temperature of the Computer at a minimum. If you own a personal Desktop Computer in your home then you probably know the importance of keeping the whole PC system cool. Heat is probably one of the most dangerous elements to your Personal Computer.

Your Computer Parts can be cooled with the simple fans and having cooling vents in your Computer case. There are, however, some cooling systems that use special liquids to keep the processor heat down so performance and overall integrity of the Hardware is not compromised. The level of cooling system that you use on your personal Computer depends on how insane your Hardware, how insane you customized your components and how insane you are using your personal Computer. The more work you do with your PC the harder the Computer components work and the more you need some coolant to keep the heat at or below the threshold.

Now for bigger systems like PC networks of big companies, you’ll find that they use a more extreme cooling system. Now these big Computer networks use big servers that need to have a sustained temperature of around 72 to 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Plus the humidity should be maintained as well. According to experts, an ideal humid environment should be 45 degrees. One could go to up to 60 percent that anything beyond that is totally unacceptable. And of course, these cooling systems should be capable of running round the clock and should have backup power supplies in case of the primary breaks down. You cannot afford to loose all your company data due to something that you could have prevented in the first place.

Housing your large components like big Computer servers needs some planning as well since the structure itself can be designed to allow the free flowing of cool air which adds to maintaining the temperature at low levels. Consider having mesh front and rear doors for server cabinets since the design allows hot air to freely escape from the server.

Some who can afford install chiller systems which use glycol or plain water coolants. These kinds of cooling system for your PC Hardware are made up of combinations of chillers, pumps and pipes. With this system you will need a bigger space and regular maintenance is absolutely necessary.

Is this cool or what?

What Would We Do Without The Camera

February 20th, 2010

Many people use a camera every single day of their lives and do not even realise they are doing it whether it comes from a digital camera, mobile phone or even something like a satellite or webcam. The question is, where would we be without all of this technology?

Memories

Although the camera has not just been put to this use its main one is photo taking on things like holidays and weddings. Without the camera many families would have to struggle a lot to remember all of the great times they had on holiday together. Photos are really good when you get a bit older as they keep all of those memories going. They are also a great way to remember the people that have passed on as they remind you of all of the good times you had.

Military

There is no way on earth that the military and police would be as good as it is now without the camera. The camera is attached to nearly all police choppers so they can see exactly what is going on. Military use UAV to plan a lot of their battles as it shows things like positions of troops and the surronding landscape.

Satellite

Believe it or not satellite technology is based heavily on the camera so without these we would be stuffed as we wouldnt be able to see storms or spy on other nations.

Pain

One of the big problems comes if you are going away and you break the thing which is why you should look into getting photographic equipment insurance. General gadget insurance will cover you too but it could also be worth looking into laptop insurance if you have a laptop

Numerous Reasons Why You Must Opt Blue Ray DVDs

February 11th, 2010

This next generation optical disc format – Blue Ray DVDs - is a proud development of the Blu Ray Disc Association (BDA) that include HP, Dell, LG, Hitachi, Apple, Samsung, Panasonic, JVC, Sony, Mitsubishi, Philips, Pioneer, Sharp, Thomson, and TDK is a remarkable invention of the BDA (Blu Ray Disc Association) that consists of TDK, Thomson, Sharp, Pioneer, Philips, Mitsubishi, Sony, JVC, Panasonic, Samsung, Apple, Hitachi, LG, Dell and HP. The BDA boasts 180 of the world’s leading consumer electronics, media and personal computer manufacturers.

DVDs, lets face it have its days counted. The necessity for storing HD content is increasing daily in the light of increasing number of people turning to HD television for their latest digital television fare. But, DVDs support a resolution up to 720×480 pixels while high definition content resolutions are as high as 1920×1080 pixels. HD video content uses up a considerable amount of hard drive space too. High definition content with data compression of about 2 hours duration requires up to twenty-two GB of storage space whereas a DVD-18 disc (dual-sided double-layer) allows a storing capability of seventeen GB only.

The answer to this issue has helped invent two brand-new technologies, namely High Definition DVD and Blue Ray DVDs, which are now locked in an intense battle to clinch market shares and become the successor to DVD. Both these technologies are very similar in nature but the blue ray DVDs have an advantage since these boast a far higher storage capacity than the HD DVD. As the name denotes, the blue ray discs make use of a blue-violet laser to write and read data in contrast to the existing technology which makes use of red laser. A blue-violet laser (405nm) has a far shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm) making it feasible to focus the laser spot with superior precision.

The advantage of this is that, it permits data to be stored in less space since the data can be packed more tightly, which further, allows consumers to fit additional data on the disc even though it may be the same size as a CD or a DVD. A single-layer HD-DVD disc only store 15 GB whereas single-layer blue ray DVDs can store 25 GB which is more than 2 hours of high-definition video and 13hours hours of standard video. A dual-layer HD-DVD can hold up to 30 GB whereas dual-layer blue ray DVDs can store 54 GB which is 4.5hours of high-definition video and more than 20hours of a standard video.

Blue ray DVDs are also light on the manufacturers since these are built by injection-molding process on a single 1.1-mm disc compared to the traditional injection-molding process on a 0.6 mm (HD DVD follow the same method) which thereby reduces costs. The money so saved is spent on the addition of a protective layer necessary on blue ray DVDs and this causes the end price to be more or less same with the current price of a DVD.

Web Software Testing: Guarantee that the Web Software is purposeful and safe

February 6th, 2010

There are various phases in software development life cycle (SDLC). Software performance testing is one of the significant phases within the software development cycle (SDCL). Different types of testing are employed in each phase beginning with development till it reaches the market. From the initial development of the application until it reaches the maketing phase different testing types will be used. The software itself also comes in different varieties, which all require testing before they’re released on the market.

Software for web applications is one type of software. With the advent of the Internet web software has significantly increased in importance, as the Internet has had a substantial impact on our daily lives. The majority of the security threats start off from Internet and it is necessary to make sure that the web software is carefully tested prior to releasing to the costumer.

The time available to develop and test web software is always limited. While the web software is being designed and developed it is also being tested by the testings engineers using different types of tests. The different types of tests can be grouped in code testing, load testing, compatibility testing, functional testing and regression testing.

The web software is usually released by means of a model of software release known as alpha/beta testing.Alpha testing is a replicated or real ready testing by would-be users/customers or a separate testing team on the developers’ location. This testing will be upon incomplete software and will be tested for small parts of the software. Software that passed the alpha test will not be released till all the major functionalities of the software are built and tested.

After the alpha testing is completed the software is permitted to undergo the beta phase of testing. In beta testing the web software I completely built. The software is made available for use to a restricted number of customers intended for software testing previous to the official release. In case of website design it is easy to put together the various pages as the website design uses HTML. So the alpha/beta technique is generally not used for website development. This is because HTML coding makes it very easy to design independent web pages that can afterwards being easily integrated so the design team can code and test each page independently.

Code testing refers to the process where the testing or development engineer verifies the code and make sure that there are no software bugs. Web development is a very rapid process so the abscence of bugs is required. A popular method used by experienced programmers for bug free coding is the paired-programming.

Two coders working at a single workstation it is at the core of paired programming. The developer typing the code is called the driver while the programmer that checks every line of code as it is produced is called the observer or the navigator. Support for this methodology is provided by some research data produced by Laurie Williams at University of Utah in Salt Lake City. According to this research paired programmers produce code with 15% less bugs while only being 15% slower than individual programmers.

The fact that the software is tested many times during the development process should provide a bug free software by the end of it. Load testing is done to see at what point the application fails or the performance reduces when under heavy loads such as multiple users on or heavy server traffic. Load testing will provide information regarding the amount of users that could connect simustaneosly to a site, the number of transactions that the system can cope at the same time and its responsiveness under different circumstances or amount of traffic.

Compatibility testing evaluates the application’s compatibility with the computing environment like the operating system, database, browser compatibility, backwards compatibility, computing capacity of the hardware platform and compatibility of the peripherals.

Functional testing confirms its specifications and accurately performs all of the required tasks. This involves doing a series of tests that perform a feature by feature validation of behavior, utilizing a wide range of normal and erroneous input data. Regression testing is carried out to check that any changes made to the code in order to enhance it or to fix defects has not affected any functionality.

When interative methodology is used to develop software regression testing is crucial. Iterative software development is a method in which new functionality is added to existing software. In this case one should make sure that the new addition has not affected any of the existing functionality. Regression testing is done to find out any of such instances. The above mentioned methods are essential tests to complete the web software testing.

Protect Your Valuable Software With A Software Escrow Agreement

February 3rd, 2010

You may be familiar with the term escrow, knowing that it protects two parties by using a third, a trusted escrow agent, so it will hardly surprise you to learn that software escrow is a way to protect both the buyer and the seller of expensive software. It has not always been possible to use escrow for intellectual property like software, but then there hasn’t always been software, but not everyone is aware of its use.

For the developers of software, using software escrow is a way to reassure a buyer, since if you default on the agreement, the software source code may be given to the buyer by the escrow agent. This only occurs when certain events are triggered documented in the escrow agreement, like not maintaining the software, but it does reassure the purchaser having this in place for expensive software. If you look at escrow through their eyes, you need some sort of reassurance that, after time, you or your company will still be around supporting the software you are using, otherwise they may have to throw your software out and start all over with another company. Obviously, this is hugely time consuming, and expensive, so it makes sense that the purchaser of pricey software would like software escrow to be in place before they purchase it. Then they have the reassurance of knowing that if something occurs beyond their control, perhaps your company goes bankrupt, then in the worst case scenario they will still have the source code of the software to work with.

Naturally there are a variety of software agreements in escrow out there, but most can be easily adjusted to suit your individual needs. If you are the seller of computer software that is pakaged, then you are more likely to need a multi user plan, not the single user plan that is in use for companies who purchase software that is highly customized, that is extremely unlikely to ever be sold to anyone else. Software escrow services can supply you with these documents, which you can then adjust to suit your particular requirements.

When you are choosing a software escrow service to use, remember to do your due diligence, making sure that the company is reputable, that there are no negative comments concerning them on the internet, and check with the Better Business Bureau too to see if there have been any conscerns documented there.

Confirm that they have been around for a time offering escrow services, and of course, ask for the pricing for their escrow service. When you have done this, go with the one that you feel most suits your needs, and then adjust the escrow agreement so that it reflects your needs. Of course, the party you are dealing with may also need to make some adjustments, so find out from the escrow company to see if they will charge you for these updates. {It is useful to know this in advance.Knowing in advance what your fees are liable to be is very valuable}.

Then, having chosen your escrow service, you can get your software escrow agreement finalised and set in motion, and the buyer, the seller and the escrow agent will be satisfied with the escrow agreement.
