Dell Notebook - Light, Thin and Extremely Portable

January 31st, 2010

A Dell notebook may be quite an acquisition for somebody interested in computers and in need of one that is light and thin, therefore extremely portable. On top of the fact that it is easy to handle, a Dell notebook doesn’t go too deep in your pocket. For instance, the new Dell Mini Inspiron costs less than $500 but but the price moves up with every new feature incorporated. This Dell notebook relies on a TFT display with a specific resolution of 1024×600 pixels. The processor is an Intel Atom with a frequency of 1.6 Ghz. Furthermore, with a Dell notebook you eliminate lots of the bothersome cables necessary for photo and data transfers, as this computer comes with a card reader for very easy use. The two operating systems it can function with are OS Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux.

Another Dell notebook that has widely appealed to customers is the artist edition Inspiron 1525. The looks of this series is totally new and therefore more attractive or stimulating as compared to other notebooks. Not only can you choose the color to represent you and go with whatever piece of outfit you want, but also the pattern or drawing that surely says more about who you are. Dell notebook manufacturers have started cooperating with Mike Ming, a Brooklyn artist, owner of two plants the Sea Sky and Bunch o’ Surfers and who had the idea of bringing a little more sense of energy, playfulness, sophistication and psychedelic dynamics to a mini laptop that has gained more and more appreciation in nowadays’ society. The original Mike Ming design will not wear off in time preserving the quality inlaid design and colors.

All in all, a Dell notebook should be chosen carefully depending on what work you need to do. If the mini laptop is merely for your own free time, then the Inspiron line offers all the features you may actually need. The designs in this category remain the first choice of users who want a computer handy and available regardless of their location. However, these Dell notebook models are not highly performing like the ones in XPS line, but they can be upgraded. As it results from the above lines, the XPS line of Dell notebooks is professionals’ choice as these can really support the different needs of their users.

Tips for Finding The Perfect Notebook

February 17th, 2009

If you’re in the market for a brand new laptop, you’ll definitely want to scout around and find the best computer hardware for your needs. Although laptops  come in all shapes and sizes, the following tips should guide you well enough to make a smart purchase.

The “tech specs” of your laptop is perhaps the most important consideration. Nothing more, nothing less; exactly what you need to match your activities. For example, you need totally different system if you’re just planning to use it for work purposes, as opposed to letting your notebooks be your entire home entertainment system.

Different applications need different type of notebooks, and getting more than what you need is literally a waste of savings. On the other hand, getting less than what you need will just frustrate you and waste your time.

The first thing you need to consider is the Central Processing Unit or CPU; it is the “brains” of your notebook. Generally speaking a faster CPU is better as it will eliminate a lot of loading and processing time, but there is a choice between Intel processors, or others.

The overall size, weight and dimension of your future laptop is just as important as anything else. If you like to keep it light and portable choose thinner ones that weight less than 1.2kg - these are usually on the higher price range but it will be worth the money, and the lack of back aches!

Equally important is the warranty length, and additional service details. Generally speaking most laptops come with standard one-year warranty, but manufacturers like Sony also include “extended” three-year versions and on-site repairs. If you get this as an option, it means that when your laptop breaks down you get someone come over to repair it at your place. Expect a premium for the “on-site” repairs, but extended warranties are quickly becoming standard items and you should kep your eyes open for laptop models that offer them at no extra cost.

As for personal choice, I prefer Lenovo brand of laptops, especially the Lenovo Thinkpad series that is both affordable and sufficient for high-end processing. Ideally, your future laptop should be able to get you through the next four years before you invest on a new one. Not many laptops live up to that promise though, so shop for your notebook wisely!

History Of Small Notebook Computers

January 13th, 2009

Technical inventions represent the fundamental structure of our modern world. We seem to be unable to do anything without technology. A clear example of the technical addiction is the use of the PC. The latest developments in the field of computers have brought us the notebook computers. When discussing about laptops, which are also called small notebook computers, we actually mean small PCs for flexible use.

We can virtually retrieve all the basic components in laptops from desktops. Thus, laptops include the display, the keyboard, a pointing device – touchpad or pointing stick, and the battery. The advantage of laptops is that they make one single unit that comprises all the other items, allowing for easy maneuvers and lots of mobility. The batteries are the main distinction and individual feature specific to laptops, but the recharging mode is carried out through an AC/DC adapter that allows extensive functionality.

The thin shape of the devices definitely led to their being called notebook computers. Laptops thickness seldom goes higher than 1.5 inches and their overall size specifics range from 10×8 inches (13 inch display) to 15×11 inches (17 inch display) or up. Furthermore, laptops are built light, weighing between 3 and 12 pounds. The design of most laptops as the flip form factor, is meant to protect the screen of the computer when it is closed.

Personal computers became feasible at the beginning of the 1970s and not long after those years the idea of portable PCs – laptops, appeared. The person who imagined this was Alan Kay of Xerox PARC. In 1972 he put his idea on paper under the name of Dynabook. By 1981, the first laptops were introduced on the market. The Osborne 1 and then, in the same year, the Epson HX-20 were the first portable computers available for public use. Since then laptops have developed and become more and more proficient.

Unfortunately, there are downsides to the use of laptops too. First we need to see the good parts to be able to investigate the flaws. The main and most important advantage of laptops is evidently their portability. In addition, laptops allow work continuation in case of accidental power outages. Laptops are also more economical and do not produce as much heat as desktop computers do. Compatibility and standardization are the main flaws of laptops today. Despite of some accepted world standards for the making of the elements for the peripherals and add-in PC cards in desktop computers, the processor and hard driver manufacturing part does not fall subject to any international regulation yet.

What To Look For In The Best Laptop Deals

December 6th, 2008

Everyone wants to have a computer that can go with them no matter where they go. Finding the best laptop deals for your needs is going to be something that you might struggle with, simply because there are many different laptops out there, and many situations where you are going to have to research before you buy. So how do you know when you have found the one for you?

Picking a laptop is a little like choosing a car – does it fit into your lifestyle and fulfill your needs?   Before your go shopping for any laptop deals, you need to think carefully about what you need the laptop to do.   If you are a college student, you definitely need fast Internet access and the ability to use word processing programs to write papers.  But if you are a businessperson who needs to show a lot of graphics at presentations, then you will have different requirements for your laptop.

Laptop reviews are a one-stop place where you can learn about what is great about particular laptops and what the downsides to them are, and you also need to do more than simply read up different laptop reviews because you should have a focus in your mind as to what you need from the laptop, as then you can narrow your choice to those makes and models which meet the exact standards that you expect from your laptop.

Do you need to add a lot of peripherals to your laptop?  Peripheral is a fancy word for any accessory that can plug into your laptop like a webcam, a projector or your cell phone.  You have to be sure your prospective laptop can handle all these accessories.

There are a lot of fancy, multi-syllabic words used in laptop deals.  “DVD player included” is one – but this is a standard feature on most laptops.  Most also have a CD recorder included, as well.  Also, one of the main reasons for the cost of a laptop is its weight (or lack thereof).  Generally, the lighter the laptop, the more expensive it will be.  If you don’t mind carrying a few extra ponds (which could help give you exercise), then you should be able to find a great laptop deal.

A Guide For Upgrading Toshiba Notebook Parts

Eventually your computer will probably breakdown or may need some type of repair, or you may just want to upgrade and replace you major components to the latest current technology.  This can be done fairly easily with a desktop computer however with a Toshiba laptop it could be a little more challenging.  But there are some upgrades that can be done yourself using either Toshiba parts or even generic parts but there are other upgrades that should be left to the professionals.

Lets examine some circumstances to determine if your laptop is completely gone or if you can use Toshiba notebook parts to fix it.

Common Laptop Upgrades

By consulting your owners manual or going online you should be able to determine what parts can be upgraded or replaced in your laptop.  Usually the hard drive as well as the memory can be upgraded.  If you have the knowledge to handle the upgrades yourself you will save some money, otherwise it is best to let a professional do it.

When it comes to memory you are probably better off using genuine Toshiba notebook parts on that but hard drives are made by other manufacturers and you need to check your manual for compatibility.

Notebook screens are not upgradeable.  You would need a whole new notebook for that which, for some reason, is really difficult to get some people to understand.  Trust me, you cannot upgrade your screen to a 17″ screen in your existing notebook.

Dead Laptop

Even though notebooks are much more durable than they used to be, dropping a laptop that is not protected by some sort of case my due serious damage to Toshiba notebook parts and circuits.  Dropping the notebook in water may be fatal.

Parts That Can Be Repaired

People are always surprised to hear this but you can fix a defective notebook screen by using Toshiba notebook parts.  I am not sure why this always surprises people but a dead screen can be fixed.  A bad power supply can also be fixed using Toshiba notebook parts as well as a bad battery.

The DVD drive and CD-Rom can be replaced or upgraded using Toshiba notebook parts.
